Android 11 beta plans
Android 11 was moved to the Developer Preview 4 this week, and beta one has been moved to June 3rd to coincide with the company’s online developer event referred to as #Android11: the Beta Launch Show.
Developer Preview 4 comes with the most recent bug fixes, API tweaks, and features for developers to try in their apps. Extra details on the changes are on the market here.
In addition, Google has decided to add additional time to the Android 11 to announce the schedule. Beta 1 and all subsequent milestones are moved out by a few months to relinquish the additional room, but, to also keep the final unleash for later in Q3.
Beta 1 on June 3rd will include the final SDK and NDK APIs and Google Play publishing for apps targeting Android 11 are going to be opened.
Subsequently, Beta 2 will be moved to July and can contain Platform Stability and system behaviors and non-greylists also will be finalized. Beta 3 can move in August and can include publishing candidate builds for final testing.
“The schedule modification adds some additional time for you to check your app for compatibility and establish any work you’ll have to be compelled to do,” Dave Burke, VP of engineering for Android, wrote in a diary post. “We suggest releasing a compatible app update by Android 11 Beta on June 3rd to get feedback from the larger group of Android Beta users who will obtain the update.”
Google also added that developers can begin to do compatibility tests on a Pixel 2, 3, 3a, or 4 devices, or use the Android Emulator. They only got to flash the most recent build, install their current production app, and check the user flows.
“Make sure to review the behavior modifications for areas where your app can be affected,” Burke added. “There’s no need to modification the app’s targetSdkVersion at now, although we recommend evaluating the work since several changes apply once your app is targeting the new API level.”
